I tried these artificial flowers from Amazon and I probably won’t buy real ones again - Chronicle Live

Amazon’s £13.99 tulips look just like the real thing and won’t die off in a few days

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, most people will be rushing out to buy last minute bouquets to give to someone they love.

Whilst roses are the traditional flower of the romantic holiday, sometimes it’s nice to go for something a little bit different.

Tulips are also supposed to represent ‘perfect deep love’ - making them the ideal alternative for a Valentine’s Day gift.

Even if you don’t have someone to shop for this Valentine’s, there’s nothing nice than buying yourself some flowers.

I personally love treating myself to flowers, they make my home feel much calmer and more put together.

One thing I don’t love though is trying to make them last. I usually forget to change the water, and they tend to wilt and look a little sad before long.

That’s why I thought I would give these Umi artificial tulips a go and see if they filled a flower-shaped hole in my living room.

I must admit I’m not usually a big fan of fake flowers as some can look a bit cheap or totally unrealistic, but since I seem unable to keep anything alive longer than a couple of days, now felt like the time to try them.

Thankfully, I was more than pleasantly surprised when they arrived the next day.

They looked so realistic I initially thought I’d misread the listing and had accidentally bought fresh flowers - that’s how good they looked.

When I opened them, they’re made from a soft plastic and have a slightly rubbery texture which means they won’t fade in the sun as quickly as silk ones do.

They also have a thick stem with hidden wire inside that lets you arrange them and bend them to replicate tulips' usual ‘droop’ if you want.

The foliage on the stems also adds to the realistic look, as often with artificial flowers they come with a very plain and basic stem which stops them looking realistic.

At 17 inches long, they’re a good height so they don’t get lost in a vase, and they come with three ‘opened’ flowers and three ‘buds’ to help them look even more natural.

It was even better knowing they won’t die off in a few days, and I don’t need to worry about refreshing the water constantly to keep them alive.

They would make a great gift for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day, or even just to treat yourself and brighten up your home.

These got a 10/10 from me, and I’ll probably be buying more very soon.

You can get them from Amazon for just £13.99
